Miranda McKeon Cancer Update: Actress Shares Positive News After Worrying Diagnosis
Miranda McKeon dropped a heartfelt update as she continues to beat breast cancer.
Months after going through continuous cancer treatment, McKeon marked the end of the health procedures on Friday. She received therapy since her first diagnosis in June.
On Instagram, the 20-year-old "Anne with an E" star recalled the months she received eight rounds of chemotherapy, three surgeries, and 25 sessions of radiation. She noted that the whole process was dreadful, she wants to treat it as a life-changing experience.
"I will be devoting a lot of energy in the coming months/ years/ lifetime (?) to healing some parts of my heart that got a little hurt in this process and doing a lot of fun stuff that makes me feel happy. Like traveling & dancing & writing & drinking lemonade & going on runs & writing cards & loving my people well & expressing gratitude," she captioned her post.
McKeon also took her chance to thank her online communities on Instagram and her blog for keeping her going.
According to the actress, documenting her cancer journey had been therapeutic for her. Though she faced hardships in the past months, she hopes that her experience can help people go through things, as well.
In pursuit of raising awareness about breast cancer, she also shared how to take care of skin while receiving proton therapy. McKeon said she always put mametazone and calendula cream twice a day to protect her skin.
Miranda McKeon's Cancer Journey
The end of her treatment came months after she underwent additional surgeries to remove her lymph nodes following her double mastectomy in November.
"I'm rocking a pretty tight buzz cut right now, and I'm so happy about it. It just feels great. I'm not saying I look in the mirror and recognize myself, or feel spectacular, but I am happy about it," she said.
McKeon's journey lasted for months, and she revealed to PEOPLE that she was spending the weekend with her friends at a beach house when she suddenly brushed a part of her breast and felt a lump in it.
Though she searched Google for more information, she still went to the doctor to have herself checked. During her appointment, she underwent an ultrasound and let the medical staff take a biopsy of the lump. She then got a call about the biopsy and found out that she was positive for the cancer disease.
