Kirsten Dunst's 'Spider-Man' Franchise Return Possible? Actress Sets Record Straight
Kirsten Dunst just hyped the "Spider-Man" franchise's fans following her recent interview.
After Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield made surprise appearances on "Spider-Man: No Way Home," fans started asking whether their respective female leads would also make a return soon.
For Dunst's part, she recently said she "feels it could happen" to her character, expressing her desire to play Mary Jane Watson's character again.
In an interview with Deadline after her Oscar nomination, she revealed she would be more than happy to return to the franchise and reprise her role as Spider-Man's love interest.
"There's still time. I mean, listen, no one's asked me about anything but I do think that... I mean, this multi-universe just keeps going on and on," she said. "I know nothing, by the way. I feel like that's a possibility."
Her comments made fans feel excited even more as her former on-screen partner, Tobey Maguire, had a triumphant return with Andrew Garfield through "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
Kirsten Dunst Ready to Play Mary Jane's Role
It was not the first time she expressed her desire to play the character again, though. In December, she revealed that she wants to return as an older version of Mary Jane.
She told Entertainment Weekly that she would do another superhero movie while everyone tries to do so recently. In fact, she was even rumored to appear on "Spider-Man: No Way Home" before the franchise offered a different surprise.
"I would do it. Why not? That would be fun. I would never say no to something like that... I'd be old MJ at this point with little Spidey babies," she told Variety.
Maguire and Dunst's "Spider-Man" became the first film to surpass the $100 million mark in a single weekend. It beat "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" and "The Scorpion King."
While waiting for a potential break, Dunst recently enjoyed working with Jane Campion in "The Power of the Dog" which helped her secure an Oscar Nomination. She secured a spot in the Best Supporting Actress category.
Aside from Dunst's nomination, the film also received 12 Oscar nods, including Best Director for Campon and Best Picture. The flick also features Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Frances Conroy, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Genevieve Lemon, and Thomasin McKenzie, among others.
