Catwoman has always been a character that lent herself to the sexy and the sultry - but apparently Zoe Kravitz's version of Selina Kyle in Matt Reeves new film The Batman is adding an extra element by flirting with men who like bats a little too much AND someone named Anika. Yes, it's heavily implied - though, in keeping with basically every movie ever, not said outright - that Catwoman is bisexual in this one.

The character is openly bi in the comics, but rarely if ever have those proclivities extended themselves to the screen, this time, however, is different. This time, on top of her advances on Robert Pattinson's Batman, Selina Kyle is apparently shown to have a romantic relationship with a character named Anika - in the beginning of the movie, she comes home looking for her, calling her "baby."

As Zoe Kravitz told Pedestrian:

"That's definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship."

Matt Reeves, however, was a little less clear:

"In terms of her relationship with Anika, I spoke to Zoë very early on and one of the things she said which I loved was that: 'She's drawn to strays because she was a stray and so she really wants to care for these strays because she doesn't want to be that way anymore and Anika is like a stray and she loves her. She actually represents this connection that she has to her mother who she lost, who was a stray anymore'.

"So I don't think we meant to go directly in that way, but you can interpret it that way for sure. She has an intimacy with that character and it's a tremendous and deep caring for that character, more so than a sexual thing, but there was meant to be quite an intimate relationship between them."

So the director's noncommittal answer was basically "if you want to interpret it that way" (and also some vague stuff that implies that this would-be girlfriend reminds Selina of her mother - in the words of John Mulaney, 'we don't have time to unpack ALL of that,'). Well we do want to interpret it that way, so there you go: Zoe Kravitz's Catwoman is bi.

Yay!

You can see her and determine if you wish you could have seen more of bi Selina (we know we will) in The Batman, in theaters this Friday.
