Ariana DeBose will be joining the Spider-Man Universe.

The Broadway star and award winning actress, having won a Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Hollywood Critics Association Film Award, will be making her debut as a supervillain in one of Sony's newest upcoming projects. The West Side Story phenom is set to premiere in the film Kraven the Hunter. According to an article on Playbill, she will take on the role of Calypso. Calypso is, according to the article, "a voodoo priestess who manipulates Kraven to team up against Spider-Man."

The world of Spider-Man is epic and expansive. It has only gotten larger and more powerful with this years Box Office chart breaking release of Spider-Man: No Way Home starring Tom Holland and Zendaya (and, at the end of the day, also Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire). We are certain that DeBose will make a phenomenal and fascinating addition to this world.

Every supervillain needs their superhero. It appears that the title role of the already highly-anticipated upcoming film will be played by Aaron Taylor Johnson. Johnson is no stranger to the Marvel Universe. He appeared in the film Marvel's Avengers: Age of Ultron. The movie already boasts a sensational creative team. J.C. Chandor will direct, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce, and Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk will write. We think it's fair to say that our hopes are already WAY up!

Congratulations Ariana! We can't wait to see the finished product of this new action-packed film!
