Meghan Markle Sued: Lawyers' Game Plan To Defend Her Against Own Sister Revealed
Meghan Markle's sister has filed a lawsuit against the Duchess of Sussex for allegedly "lying about her childhood" during last year's sit-down tell-all with Oprah Winfrey.
During a deposition, Samantha Markle claimed that the Duchess of Sussex defamed her by spreading false information about her family and herself.
In the words of the former "Suits" actress' older sister, who shares the same father as the former actress, her "rags to riches" story is a "falsehood."
Samantha went on to allege that her renowned sister lied about Samantha's history to the Royal family, the media, and during television interviews, and that Samantha was the one who lied.
On top of that, she claimed that her half-sibling had launched a "premeditated campaign to damage" the reputation of her and her father's family.
As part of her "basically raising herself from virtual poverty," Meghan Markle, according to the complaint, was forced to take on low-paying jobs in order to "make ends meet."
Meghan Markle stated in the Oprah interview with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex conducted roughly a year ago that she has not seen her sister in approximately 19 years already.
Samantha, on the other hand, maintains that Meghan's statements in the interview were "false," claiming that Meghan spent "regular time" with her elder sister "throughout her childhood" and even "lived in the same apartment house" with her for a period of time during their upbringing.
According to the lawsuit, Samantha picked her up from school on a regular basis, took her out for ice cream and to the mall, and even took her home for the holidays with Samantha and their other family members.
Aside from that, according to the lawsuit, Meghan's comments in the interview were only an attempt to give the false impression that she was "basically an only child with no interaction with other family members," or, as she put it in the interview, "had no siblings."
As of right now, Samantha Markle is reportedly demanding $75,000 in damages and has requested a jury trial in the matter.
Meanwhile, Meghan Markle's attorneys have already issued a statement saying that the case is "baseless and ludicrous."
Their legal staff, on the other hand, had a straightforward strategy.
"This unfounded and ludicrous action is simply a continuation of a pattern of unsettling behavior," Michael Kump stated in response to the complaint.
"We'll give it the bare minimum of attention that it deserves," said the team.
The lawsuit is the most recent in a string of court battles involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. They already filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail in connection with a private letter the Duchess addressed to her father, which was published on Sunday.
