Royal Heartbreak: Queen Elizabeth Once Disappointed Prince Edward Because of THIS
Queen Elizabeth II is not a perfect mother after all, a royal expert recalled.
The Royal Family's Twitter account marked Prince Edward's birthday with a short but heartfelt greeting along with a photo of the royal. Although the Queen and the monarchy remembered his 58th birthday this year, most royal commentators refer to the Earl of Wessex as Her Majesty's forgotten son.
Ingrid Seward recalled how Prince Edward once visited Queen Elizabeth II for a breakfast but did not receive a greeting from her.
"One year on his birthday, he went to have breakfast with the Queen and nothing was said. No card, no present. She didn't know it was his birthday," the royal expert said, per Express.
Seward previously mentioned the incident in her book, "Prince Edward: A Biography," but she only shared further details about it recently.
Per the royal expert, the heartbreaking moment happened in the early 1990s. But a few moments later, a royal aide informed the Queen what she had forgotten, and a phone call was immediately made afterward.
Despite the saddening moment, Prince Edward's birth has always been special as it was the first time a royal father was present at the birth of his children.
What Made Prince Edward Special?
Seward explained to Irish Independent that Prince Philip witnessed Queen Elizabeth II give birth to one of their children for the first time.
"The Queen, by then aged 37, had asked him to be there; she'd been keenly reading women's magazines that stressed the importance of involving fathers in childbirth and had become fascinated by the idea," she went on.
After losing his father, Prince Edward became one of Queen Elizabeth II's closest confidantes. Most recently, he took over the role the late Duke of Edinburgh once had.
This year, Prince Edward officially became the President of the Royal Windsor Horse Show - a prestigious role Prince Philip once held. The Duke of Edinburgh had the position since 1991 and competed in International Carriage Driving for more than three decades.
Prince Edward then became the fourth royal to ever score the role. After receiving it, he expressed his gratitude to be the recipient of the title Prince Philip once felt passionate to have.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show will hold an event from May 12 to 15 in the private grounds of Windsor Castle. Show Director Simon Brooks-Ward shared how honored and delighted they are to be able to work with Prince Edward.
