Bob Saget's Death Inspired Bob Odenkirk Even More After His Near-Fatal Heart Attack
Bob Saget inspired one more person after his death.
Hollywood and its fans received the saddening news they were not ready to hear yet when Saget suddenly passed away. Despite losing one of the geniuses in the industry, Bob Odenkirk chose to see the event positively instead as it pushed him to reflect on his own life.
In a new interview months after Odenkirk faced the health scare, he sat for an interview on Willie Geist's "Sunday Sitdown" podcast. Elsewhere in the conversation, the "Better Call Saul" actor said he wants to be like Saget as he continues his career after the heart attack.
"I only met him one time and he really was a genuinely sweet guy who cared about other people," Odenkirk said. "And you could have a brief conversation with him and feel very connected very quickly. I would like to try to be a little more like him as I move forward."
It is worth noting that he passed out while taking a break with co-stars Patrick Fabian and Rhea Seehorn during the filming of his AMC series. The production's medical team responded immediately while the health safety supervisor, Rosa Estrada, and assistant director Angie Meyer conducted CPR. They also attached Odenkirk to a defibrillator.
As Odenkirk was given another chance to live, the actor is now more desperate to become an inspiration to others, too.
Bob Odenkirk Explained His Health Status
Although he already gave his fans the exact diagnosis he had, Odenkirk took his time to recall the traumatic day and how he would still love to hear a doctor explain the difference between his heart incident and a usual heart attack.
"My widow-maker artery was completely blocked. That's why it's called the widow-maker, because you die when that happens. But I went down. And I was very lucky that my co-stars, Rhea Seehorn and Patrick Fabian, were right nearby," he said.
The actor recalled how Rosa Estrada, the series' health officer, had an AED device in her car and used it to revive him after three tries.
After the event happened, Odenkirk and his co-stars reportedly started calling the moment "traumatizing." Still, he felt loved enough due to the outpouring and overwhelming support he received online.
In a separate interview, Odenkirk said that he found out in 2018 that he had plaque buildup in his heart. But he refused to receive treatment until "one of the plaques" broke up on its last year. Unfortunately, it happened again and prompted him to undergo another procedure.
