Did Emma Watson Call Out J.K. Rowling? Actress Labeled a 'Queen'
In a recent speech, Emma Watson seemingly highlighted her support for transgender people, which some took as her making a dig at J.K Rowling - the woman who is said to be behind her own rise to fame.
Sunday night at the 2022 BAFTA Awards, Emma Watson made it obvious - all the witches are going to get a shout-out from her! "She calls herself a feminist, but we all know she's a witch," host Rebel Wilson said when calling the actress to the stage, according to the Independent.
It's not clear what the "Bling Ring" actress really meant by her response, but many said it's link to Rowling's "anti-trans" perspective. Many assumed it was a veiled dig at Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, who recently came under fire for tweets and views repeatedly highlighting her "anti-trans" stance.
Rowling on her part has once clarified she has no hate for the trans community, but she wants people to see women as being different from trans women, and there's no changing her mind about that.
Fans were supportive of Emma Watson's supposed dig though.
One viewer posted a clip of the moment on Twitter, and commented, "Emma Watson destroying JK."
"Live for Emma Watson throwing subtle shade at JK Rowling at the #BAFTAs #LGBWithTheT #JKDoesntSpeakForMe," wrote another fan of the actress.
Wilson had made a snide remark about Rowling earlier in the evening herself.
The comedian, who has documented her weight reduction journey on Instagram for the last year, joked that she hoped J.K. Rowling would still approve of her "transformation."
The comment was quite timely, leaving no doubt that Wilson was making a dig at the author. This is because J.K. Rowling just put out another tweet about International Women's Day, which is clear on her view that trans women are making biologically-born women invisible.
"Apparently, under a Labour government, today will become We Who Must Not Be Named Day," she tweeted. This naturally caught fire.
In the past, Rowling's views on transgender rights have sparked controversy. On Instagram, American Crime Story star Sarah Paulson advised Rowling to "shut up," while other Harry Potter actors have decidedly tried to distance themselves from the author.
