Hollywood can be a brutal environment, with women's appearances being inspected more closely than men's. This has been proven time and again, but Amanda Bynes has a story of her own to share. Instead of being criticized for her "flaws," she said she was once described as a "monster," by a director no less.

Amanda Bynes claimed this week that she had received criticisms through the years, claiming that a Hollywood director told her she "looked like a monster" in certain scenarios.

"I once did a movie where the director told me that in certain lights, I looked like a monster," the 35-year-old actress revealed in a new video published to Instagram.

Instead of characterizing the whole experience as society's weird standards for women, she seemingly admitted that something is wrong with her face.

She shared that she has a different appearance when the sun shines on her face. "'The reason I don't usually look great in paparazzi pictures is because I'm squinting in the sun," she said during the clip.

She revealed that the videos and photos she share in the past are either in "a flattering light" or in the shade outside, away from the sun.

Meanwhile, Amanda recently requested the end of her conservatorship, which she has been under for nearly nine years. She even went online to update her fans about it. She revealed the court date is around the corner now.

Amanda filed documents with a California court months after Britney Spears' conservatorship was successfully ended. Her representative, on the other hand, argued that the two circumstances are unrelated. It remains to be seen whether Bynes can be freed from hers like Spears was.

If her revelation about being called a monster is true, one can only speculate as to what such insults have done to her, given that she was once depressed over her appearance.

Amanda Bynes was one of the most popular celebrities in the late 1990s and early 2000s, with her own Nickelodeon sketch comedy show, The Amanda Show. Bynes retired from performing in 2010 and has generally avoided the spotlight since then. Many fans have inquired about her well-being since then.

In 2006, one of the most popular films was "She's the Man,"

in which Bynes starred as Viola, a girl who pretends to be her brother Sebastian in order to play soccer at his school.

According to the Insider, Bynes spent much of the filming disguised as a man, which she later said had a negative impact on her body image and mental health.""When the movie came out and I saw it, I went into a deep depression for four to six months because I didn't like how I looked when I was a boy." When Bynes saw herself dressed as a man on screen, she described the feeling as, "a super strange out-of-body experience," she revealed.

Bynes announced her retirement from acting after the release of "Easy A" in 2010. She admitted to taking marijuana and Adderall on a regular basis and said she was battling with her mental health at the time.
