If you know the saying "You are NOT the father!" then you are familiar with the popular talk show Maury, the 30 year old daytime staple hosted by Maury Povich. The show, which began its run in 1991 under the moniker The Maury Povich Show, later shortened simply to Maury, will not be coming back after it finishes its final season in 2022.

Maury, now 83 years old, reflected on how he was ready to retire you a few years now,

"Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show. Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I'm so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, 'Enough, already!'"

The show started as a talk show dealing with a wide range of issues, eventually becoming a method of people finding out if they are the father of an illegitimate child. Rowdy crowds would cheer as would-be dads sat in wait for Maury to utter what has become his catch phrase, "You are (or not) the father."

Executive Vice President at NBCUniversal Syndication Studios Tracie Wilson told Deadline,

"Maury and I decided two years ago that this season would be the farewell season for the show, and while his retirement is bittersweet, we are so happy for him to be able to spend more time on the golf course. Maury is a television icon, a pop culture legend and we couldn't be more proud to have been a part of his incredible career."

With this icon of daytime talk exiting the landscape, it will be interesting to see if a fresh take on midday television will emerge in Maury's absence.
