We were all excited when we heard the announcement that the National Treasure actor would be playing the esteemed vampire gentleman himself in the upcoming horror comedy Renfield - also starring Nicholas Hoult and Ben Schwartz. It's Nick Cage. As Dracula.
Between this and his upcoming movie The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, in which he plays himself going undercover for the CIA, Cage is poised to re-emerge as everyone's favorite Hollywood Cryptid - and we mean that in the best and most celebratory way possible. People online are already freaking out about the image:
He looks like he passed a whole year inside some casino and this is the first time he came out to take a break.

What are you talking about, that's John Travolta.

This is gonna be the greatest Dracula of all time.

I hope they use the OCD vampire angle for this. I can totally see Cage playing this as some undead Howard Hughes.

It does seem like Renfield is really leaning in to the old, campy vampire stereotypes in this film, which is refreshing to see after years of clever, sexy plays on vampires like the ones in Twilight or True Blood. He looks like a pallid, weird, reclusive dandy who just wants to have fancy things and drink blood - the true core of popular Dracula lore.
We can't wait to see exactly what kind of Dracula Nicolas Cage will be when Renfield comes out...next April.
Sigh. Well, at least The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent will be out sooner: There's only a month between now and April 22.
