WHAT IS HAPPENING?! From Will Smith to Taylor Swift, 2022 Is Already the WEIRDEST YEAR On Record! Here is Why!
We are three months in to 2022, and I think at this point we can safely say:
WHAT THE ACTUAL F***.
One fourth of the year has wrapped up, and, if the remaining three-fourths prove to be ANYTHING like the first, 2022 is in the running to be the STRANGEST year on the books.
No, I'm not saying it was the worst year (remember that wonderful time when the pandemic started and the world halted and altered in ways we never could possibly have imagined AND there were killer bees?) I'm just saying, as far as recent years go, this one is shaping up to be the weirdest.
Since the onset of the pandemic, people have been finding ways to nihilistically laugh at the absurdism that has been the last two years - and one of those ways is playing a sort of existential BINGO with themselves.
Let's just say that a lot of stuff has happened this year that was not on our BINGO cards.
Like, if we made predictions about the things that would happen this year, we would all be out of luck. I would be shocked if anyone can sit back and say, "Oh, that happened in 2022? I KNEW IT!" You could not call this. Not any of it. Not unless you're The Simpsons, and even then...
Here's some of the insanely strange stuff that has happened so far this year that has all of us scratching our heads.
1. The Slap
Oh, The Oscars. A night of high fashion, elite celebrities, and magical awards.
WAIT! How could I forget that magical moment where the man everyone knows is set to win the award for Best Actor runs up and slaps a comedian in the face over a joke?
No one saw this moment coming, least of all ANYONE WHO WAS ATTENDING THE OSCARS!! If you haven't come across a shocked-reaction post with the faces of the brightest stars' truly startled faces when they watched Will Smith slap Chris Rock, I recommend you check those out right now.
2. Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson Lasting This Long
This is 0% shade at the Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson relationship. Honestly, they're really good to each other. They stand up for each other, and their feelings seem incredibly sincere.
However, we would be lying if we said we thought they would last THIS long.
We thought this might be a fun hook-up, a post divorce tryst, a Kuick moment with a Kardashian. Instead, their love has blossomed before our eyes and has become something genuinely lovely. Good for them!
(Still belongs on the SUPER weird year list, though!)
3. Taylor Swift Becomes a Doctor
Taylor Swift is perfect and can do anything.
It has recently been announced that she will be receiving an honorary doctorate from NYU.
No, it's not entirely shocking considering, as sentence one named, the singer can do anything, but it's just another whimsical thing that 2022 has to offer us all. The next album we get will be Dr. Taylor's Version! Honestly, thank you 2022.
4. Louis CK got Stuck in Ukraine
I'm not trying to make light of a serious situation, but could anyone have predicted the stand-up comedian getting stuck quite literally in the middle of a BRAND new war? This is one Louis CK plot twist we could not have collectively expected
5. Hillary Clinton Has Been Cast in a Musical
Former Secratary of State Hillary Clinton has been cast in Arkansas Repertory Theater's summer stock production of Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods in the off-stage role of The Giant. It will be performed in late May and early June.
I don't feel the need to explain this one too much. I'm just going to leave it here.
6. Pete Davidson and Colin Jost Bought a Boat
(Yes, Pete Davidson is on this list twice, which in and of itself should be an item on this list)
Is this the STRANGEST thing to happen so far this year? No. But given who both of these actors are and their constant interactions with the Weekend Update character Man Who Bought a Boat, it is way too funny to not add this to the list, mostly because, would anyone have guessed this? NO!
7. Elon Musk Challenged Vladamir Putin to a Fist Fight
Elon Musk has been doing absolutely exceptional things for the people of Ukraine. Through the use of his satellites, he has helped them to maintain wifi service, something that immensely aids their efforts.
However, we would be remiss if we did not add his Twitter challenge asking Vladamir Putin to square up to a fist fight on this list.
Furthermore, as both of them are MMA trained, the world sincerely started asking themselves...who would win?
8. Daniel Radcliffe is Going to Be Weird Al
A documentary about Weird Al Yankovic titled Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is being produced, and Daniel Radcliffe is playing the title role.
Now, we understand that Radcliffe has taken on a great many parts since he saved the wizarding world, but if you told me even six months ago that Harry Potter was going to be playing the world-renowned parody musician on stage, you definitely would have been met with a quizzical, "Wait, what?"
So yeah, you can make your predictions for this year, but let's be real: at the rate it is all going, none of them are going to be right.
