Kelly Clarkson No More: Will Name Change to Kelly Brianne Affect Her Talk Show?
Will Kelly Clarkson's name change to Kelly Brianne affect her talk show?
Multiple news outlets, including ET, confirmed that Clarkson legally changed her name to Kelly Briane through the Superior Court of California.
"The Decree is signed and filed. The Petitioner's name is changed from KELLY BRIANNE CLARKSON to KELLY BRIANNE," it says.
While her fans are happy about it, some expressed their concerns that the name change could affect her talk show in any way. Fortunately, "The Kelly Clarkson Show" will keep its name.
A publicist for the singer's talk show recently told Vulture (via People) that "The Kelly Clarkson Show" will retain its name. It means that the show will not use Kelly Brianne's name and change it to "The Kelly Brianne Show."
Aside from the fact that the original name is already on all its marketing materials, the 39-year-old "Breakaway" hitmaker said that her name change was just a formality of her divorce and that she is still Kelly Clarkson.
Why Did Kelly Clarkson Change Her Name to Kelly Briane?
The petition for name change began in February, as the singer reportedly wanted to use her first and middle names instead. A review of the petition was held on March 28, and it approved the singer's request to have her desired name.
It also came after the host finally finalized her divorce from her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, following their split in June 2020 after seven years of marriage.
During the red carpet event of the "American Song Contest" premiere in Los Angeles, she told PEOPLE (the TV Show!) guest correspondent Adrianna Costa that she never thought she could go by anything else other than "Clarkson." It is worth noting that she had been using it for 20 years.
"I just got divorced, so I had to drop my married last name," she said.
After the divorce settlement, the television personality was reportedly happy now that she could prioritize her children. But as part of their agreement, Clarkson would give Blackstock a one-time payment of over $1.3 million on top of the child support payments of $45,601 that began on February 1.
She will pay her ex-husband $115,000 in spousal support monthly until Jan. 31, 2024. Meanwhile, Blackstock will give her $2,000 a month while he stays at their ranch until June.
