The Florida Man has gotten a bad reputation over the years. He's called 911 for a ride to Hooters. He's been charged with a DUI on a segway. The guy has even fed his own penis to the gators to gain their affection.

As a collective, it seems that headlines that begin with 'Florida Man' (or, indeed, any Florida Resident-led headline, sometimes it's not men) tend to end in either disaster, horror, tragedy, or all of the above. It honestly seems you don't hear about a whole lot of good things coming out of Florida in general these days.

So that's why it's so refreshing to see a Florida Resident headline that does end with something lovely - Like "Florida teenager gets accepted to 27 schools, offered more than $4 million in scholarships," for example. Let's talk about him!

The Florida Teen in question - also technically a Florida Man, seeing as he's 18 years old - is Rutherford High School student Jonathan Walker, a resident of Panama City. (With a dope name, we might add - we sincerely hope that when he turns 21, he finds that he enjoys Johnny Walker-brand Whiskey, because we're guessing it'll be gifted to him quite often.)

Mr. Walker has been accepted to 27 colleges so far, including the prestigious Ivy League schools Harvard, Yale, and The University of Pennsylvania. He has also recieved scholarship offers that, totaled, equal about $4 million.

"It's so crazy to think that I applied to all these colleges, and I got in. That's such a rare thing to occur, but the fact that it did happen, I'm so excited about it."

When asked what he thought helped him with the admisisons the most, he had this to say - good advice for all those younger than him about to take on the application process themselves in the coming years:

"Every campus has something special about it and so, I found something that I loved within all of them, and I really tried to write about that and show that in my applications... It's really just like writing a set of essays for one college and then from there like tweaking them specifically for the colleges."

Of course, it probably also helps that Walker is the type of person to invent a device that helps people who are blind and/or deaf in his own spare time.

Walker is a member of the International Baccalaureate Program, which awards college credits to high school students across a number of disciplines. He's said he wants to study engineering, computer science, business and psychology, in order to one day start his own business.

We're sure he'll do great things in the coming years - great job, Florida Man Jonahtan Walker!
