‘Riverdale’ Season 7: CW Series Not Ending Despite Cole Sprouse’s Remarks [UPDATE]
Despite Cole Sprouse's previous remarks about wanting "Riverdale" to end after six seasons, the popular CW show will not wrap up its storyline anytime soon as it was renewed for a seventh season.
According to Parade, the TV show has been picked up for season seven.
The storyline has drastically changed since the first season in 2017, as they initially began the series as a murder genre.
Today, "Riverdale" turned into a mystical drama series as it now explores witchcraft, superhero powers, and special abilities in its cast members.
Aside from the series, The CW also announced other shows that will be renewed for 2022 and 2023, like "The Flash," "Nancy Drew," "All American," "Superman & Louis," and "Walker."
In a statement, chairman and CEO of the media giant Mark Pedowitz said the scripted series mentioned above will start a "solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watch series for us to build on for next year and beyond."
Information about "Riverdale's" seventh season's storyline and the plot is still unclear as season six is ongoing.
Many people have been speculating that the show will end soon, but showrunner and creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacaca denied the rumors, telling Deadline that they are "wide open" and "exploring" a different genre.
Lili Reinhart, who plays the role of Betty Cooper, also took to Instagram Live last December, saying the seventh season would be their last.
Cole Sprouse Wants 'Riverdale' To End
The recent news comes almost a month after Cole Sprouse, who plays Jughead Jones, revealed in an interview that he wanted the series to end.
The former Disney actor told GQ Magazine that he's ready to move forward and "wrap" the show with a "bow."
"I'm not a creative force behind [Riverdale]. I actually have no creative control," he said.
As of this writing, Sprouse has not announced whether he's coming back on season seven or not.
'Riverdale' Showrunner Reveals How the Series Would End
In a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased fans about a potential ending for the show.
Initially, executives questioned his idea about the show as it revolved around teenagers. He then thought of the story evolving into young adulthood.
Aguirre-Sacasa said the show would only end when KJ Apa's character, Archie Andrews, has a child.
