Julia Roberts Explains Why She’s Starring in Her First Rom-Com in 20 Years
Julia Roberts is returning to the genre that catapulted her to stardom.
The "Pretty Woman" star hasn't created a romantic comedy film in the previous 20 years. She is, however, about to make a miraculous comeback.
One of the reasons Julia has been hesitant is because she wants to work with his buddy, George Clooney.
The other was that she just want a screenplay that felt good for her to follow.
Fans of the 1990s classics "My Best Friend's Wedding," "Notting Hill," and "Pretty Woman" will recognize Julia's new role in the film "Ticket to Paradise," which will be released in October 2022.
The new film is about a divorced couple who travel to Bali to prevent their daughter from doing the same mistake they did 25 years ago.
Julia Roberts sounded astonished in an interview with the New York Times that it had been nearly 20 years since she had featured in films like that.
"It can't be 20 years, can it?" she wondered.
The former America's Sweetheart went on to say, "Here's the thing: if I believed something was good enough, I'd do it. But in the previous 18 years, I've also had three children."
Julie also stated, "This raises the bar even higher because it is no longer just a question of 'Is this stuff good?' It's also a math equation including my husband's job schedule, the kids' school schedules, and summer vacation. It's not as simple as saying, 'Oh, I believe I want to do this.'"
Julie Roberts will have been married to her husband, Daniel Moder, on July. They have 17-year-old twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, as well as a 14-year-old son Henry.
When asked what inspired her to return to the genre that made her a Hollywood celebrity, Julia responded that people don't always comprehend or realize how time passes - that it's not that she didn't want to star in a rom-com.
But that was precisely the right script she had been looking for.
"I would do it if I read anything that I thought was that Notting Hill level of writing or the My Best Friend's Wedding level of madcap fun."
She then went on to boast about her future picture, which scripts "didn't exist" before "The Ticket To Paradise."
Julia Roberts' most recent film was "Wonder," which came out in 2017.
