Euphoria has been a hit show on HBO Max for two straight seasons now, becoming an even bigger phenomenon this year than it was when it first burst onto the scene.

Starring the magnetic and ever-talented Zendaya, Euphoria is a teen drama that delves into some of the darkest corners of what being a teenager can mean - mental illness, addiction, abuse - these less-talked-about elements come center stage in this show, making for a gripping drama that has viewers concerned for their favorite characters more or less the entire time.

Variety met Zendaya at an FYC event for the show yesterday and asked her how long she thinks a show can continue like this - can they pull out more seasons of wall-to-wall trauma? And, if so, will viewers want to stick around to see it?

Zendaya, however, assures us that this brutal beginning is only a jumping off point for the young stars of Euphoria - particularly Rue, who has been struggling with addiction since the beginning of the show.

"What was really important was that we Did This. We carried her all the way to hopefully what is rock bottom and a dark moment, and hopefully by the end, leave with a sense of...happiness, of joy that there is hope for her in the end.

"And I think that was expressed through her watching Lex's play - but also, I was able to write this song with Lab called "I'm Tired," and we had written it for an earlier season for a different emotional point that Rue was in, but then once we got to the end and we had this hopeful moment, and we were like,'Wait, lets go back and rewrite a moment that has more hope and more joy and shows that Rue wants to be here and it's up to her now.'

"And I really hope we can explore her life in the future...closer to the other side of her sobriety journey, figuring that out."

So good news, Euphoria fans: It looks like the worst is behind Rue after season two, and whatever happens in season 3 and beyond, we will at least get to begin to see her flourish more than she suffers.

Euphoria season 2 is available to watch on HBO Max now.
