Dakota Johnson and Henry Golding Adaptation Of Jane Austen's 'Persuasion' Finally Has A Release Date! [FIRST LOOK]
If you're a huge fan of period pieces and you don't know what to do with yourself now that you've burned through season 2 of Bridgerton, have we got some good news for you: Netflix is adapting a Jane Austen novel, and they've finally set a release date (and released photo stills!)
The novel in question is Austen's final novel, and her only posthumously published work: Persuasion. Published in 1818, Netflix summarizes their version of this literary classic as follows:
"Living with her snobby family on the brink of bankruptcy, Anne Elliot is an unconforming woman with modern sensibilities. When Frederick Wentworth - the dashing one she let get away - crashes back into her life, Anne must choose between putting the past behind her or listening to her heart when it comes to second chances."
In the novel, Anne falls for Frederick when she's 19, but her family, deeming the match unsuitable, forces her to break it off. Years later, however, they meet again, and this time he's made a respectable name for himself with his career in the Navy - but Anne isn't sure if his feelings are still true.
Netflix says their adaptiation will have a more "modern, witty approach" to the story, according to Vogue.
The role of Anne Elliot will be played by actress Dakota Johnson, who got her big break in a very different book adaptation - 50 Shades of Grey. Frederick Wentworth, meanwhile, will be played by actor Cosmo Jarvis.
In addition, heartthrob Henry Golding, best known for the much-beloved film Crazy Rich Asians will also appear in the film, as Mr. Elliot, a distant cousin of Anne's and a competing romantic interest.
We don't have to wait too much longer to see it all play out: Netflix's new adaptation of Persuasion will drop on the streaming service this summer, July 15.
