Chris Pratt Out of MCU? James Gunn Defends Actor Over False Beliefs
Chris Pratt has been backed up by James Gunn after some MCU fans started demanding for the actor to be replaced in the franchise.
Marvel fans are now active again following the release of the first and official trailer of "Thor: Love and Thunder." In the teaser, Pratt's Star-Lord/Peter Quill gives Chris Hemsworth a special message, telling the God of Thunder to look into the eyes of the people he loves.
Thor, however, looks into Star-Lord's eyes.
This brought back the issue of Star-Lord's bisexuality, as noted in the 2020 "Guardians of the Galaxy" comic book. Although the MCU has been open about its characters having third sex, some fans connected it to Pratt's personal beliefs.
One fan even asked Marvel Studios to replace him with Patrick Wilson.
But "Guardians of the Galaxy" director quickly defended the actor and dismissed the fans' calls for a recast.
"For what? Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him that's not true? Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him," he said.
The filmmaker offered a more epic answer when a commenter asked him whether he is cool with Pratt being part of a homophobic church.
Gunn quickly corrected the fan and said that Pratt is not part of an alleged homophobic church. In fact, he reportedly knows the church Pratt currently goes to.
Chris Pratt Has Since Defended Himself
Gunn's comments came years after Pratt broke his silence for the first and last time.
For what it's worth, Elliot Page tweeted in 2019 that the actor's church is an infamous anti-LGBTQ.
At that time, the MCU actor responded to Page's comment and said that his church is open to everyone. He also defended that his church does not encompass who he is and what he believes.
"My values define who I am. We need less hate in this world, not more. I am a man who believes that everyone is entitled to love who they want free from the judgment of their fellow man," he said.
Despite his explanation, calls for him to be replaced in the franchise started in 2020. At that time, people got "more reasons" to make the petition due to his church affiliation and political stand.
