More announcements out of CinemaCon in Las Vegas this week: It has been confirmed that Ghostbusters 5 is in the works over at Sony. The news was announced at the Sony Pictures panel and little else was given in terms of story, casting, and what have you. With the success of the nostalgia trip for franchise fans which was Ghostbusters: Afterlife, it only makes sense that the company would green light a follow-up.

In the last film, (Spoilers) Egon's grandkids (Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace) and their new friends find their grandfather's equipment, and discover the imminent return of one of the Ghostbusters' old nemesis. The film was pretty well received by audiences, cashing in at a decent $197 million worldwide with a budget of $75 million.

In the last film, there was a stinger which could easily lead into the next, continuing where Afterlife left off - and it was no secret that the original cast appeared in the film so they will more than likely get back into the busting business.

(Or they could reboot it again, though we saw how well that worked back in 2016.)

With Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse Parts 1 and 2 swinging back into theaters, as well as the announcement that Bad Bunny has been cast to play the less-than notable Spider-Man character named El Muerto, Sony seems to really be trying to step up their game with their more profitable franchises in order to compete with studios such as Disney/Marvel

Enstarz will keep you posted as these projects develop.
