Johnny Depp Was Right: Amber Heard Broke ACLU Pledge, Elon Musk Even Shouldered Half
Amber Heard only donated half of the $3.5 million promised to American Civil Liberties Union from her $7 million divorce settlement with Johnny Depp, a judge was told.
Turns out Johnny Depp was right two years ago to be suspicious about the actress's true intentions with the money. He was the first to cast doubt that Heard would donate the money. At the time, she even said she planned to donate the whole $7 million. Unfortunately, Depp was called names for his insinuations, with some saying he just wanted to be petty about things.
Now, Terence Dougherty, the American Civil Liberties Union's (ACLU) chief operating officer and general counsel, testified this on the couple's multimillion-dollar defamation trial on Thursday via a pre-recorded deposition filmed in December of last year.
Dougherty stated that Ms Heard donated $350,000 personally, $100,000 through Mr Depp, $500,000 through a donor-advised fund, and another $350,000 through a donor-advised fund - for a total donation of $1.3 million.
It was also raised that Elon Musk himself pitched in in the $1.3 Million donated. Elon Musk covered nearly half of ex-girlfriend Amber Heard's donation to the ACLU, as reported by the Daily Mail UK.
He stated that Heard was chosen as an ACLU ambassador following the vow to make such a significant donation, but he noted that the whole sum had not been received at the time of the deposition.

He said that Amber Heard talked with such clarity and authority on problems of gender-based violence that the representatives of ACLU at the time, determined she would be an appropriate candidate to be an ambassador.
Heard said in a 2018 op-ed that like many other who have suffered domestic abuse and harassment, she too have already been abused as early as the time she reached college. "But I kept quiet - I did not expect filing complaints to bring justice. And I didn't see myself as a victim" she wrote. However, everything changed.
"Then two years ago, I became a public figure representing domestic abuse, and I felt the full force of our culture's wrath for women who speak out," she added at the time.
While Depp is not specifically mentioned in the article, his legal team believes that it bears a "clear insinuation that Mr Depp is a domestic abuser," which they claim is "categorically and manifestly incorrect." Mr Depp is seeking "at least $50 million" in damages.
Heard has counterclaimed against Mr Depp for nuisance and immunity from his allegations in the amount of $100 million.
According to an email from Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, who was associated with the donor-advised fund and with whom Heard previously dated, the $3.5 million donation was to be paid over ten years - a proposal that was never confirmed. Ms Heard was aware of the decade-long plot, according to documents shown in court.
The ACLU contacted Heard after Depp sent the organization a check on her behalf. They inquired as to whether the $100,000 donation was intended to be included in her overall donation or to be identified as coming from Mr Depp. She stated that it was a condition of her pledge.
Heard has committed to donate a portion of her divorce settlement to a children's hospital in Los Angeles.
"We received no payments in 2019 and thereafter," Mr Dougherty stated.
"In the three years after her last payment, what, if any, efforts has the ACLU done to collect from Amber Heard?" he was asked.
He answered that they have reached out to the actress in 2019 and discovered for themselves that Heard was already having financial difficulties at the time.
