Jada Pinkett Smith Suffering From Anxiety Before Will Smith Slapped Chris Rock
Jada Pinkett Smith braved her emotions and publicly revealed that she is suffering from anxiety.
Before her husband, Will Smith, got embroiled in a dramatic slap at the Oscars, Jada reportedly felt signs of anxiety that she had just overlooked. She shared more details about it in her show and revealed how her daughter helped her understand the mental health issue even more.
During the most recent episode of "Red Table Talk," which was recorded before the Oscars incident, Jada's mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris said that she never identified the actress's issue as anxiety.
The 50-year-old reportedly felt the signs when she started to bite her fingernails and chew her cuticles.
According to Jada, learning about her daughter's anxiety helped her understand that she, too, has the same issue. Willow Smith noted that she and her mother indeed had a talk, and that Jada told her she never knew she experienced anxiety.
She added that Jada had been closing her doors to accept that fact for years.
Upon learning that her mother also has anxiety, Willow reportedly started learning to forgive her for downplaying her issues when she was younger.
"I had to forgive her a little bit for being like, 'Yeah, yeah, yeah ... I get it, but it's really not that bad.' It was rough. I feel like when I was growing up, she didn't understand my anxiety. Because she, growing up, had seen her friends die ... she had been through so much stuff that my issues, to her, kind of felt like ... [smaller]," Willow went on.
Willow Smith Reportedly Triggered Jada Pinkett Smith
During the same interview, Willow recalled how her anxiety triggered Jada. After years of screaming, crying, and shaking on the floor, her episodes reportedly did not open her mother's eyes initially.
Meanwhile, Jada revealed that she eventually started to evaluate her family and their behaviors, learning about the generational anxiety they were all suffering from.
The episode also showed a title card that revealed how the recent events affected the Smith family, so they began having deep healing.
"Some of the discoveries around our healing will be shared at the table when the time calls," the message continued. "Until then the table will continue offering itself to powerful, inspiring and healing testimonies like that of our incredibly impressive first guest."
