James Corden Stepping Away From 'The Late Late Show' Next Spring
Fans of late night talk shows are either going to love or hate this news: One Mr. James Corden leaving The Late Late Show in the spring of 2023.
The team over at CBS dropped a sneak peek of Thursday's show which has the Carpool Karaoke host bidding a fond farewell to his viewership.
In the clip, Corden says,
"This will be my last year hosting the show. When I started this journey, it was always going to be just that. It was going to be a journey, an adventure. I never saw it as my final destination, you know? And I never want this show to overstay its welcome in any way. I always want to love making it. And I really think in a year from now that will be a good time to move on and see what else might be out there."
George Cheeks, President, and CEO of CBS, released a statement praising the time the network had with Corden, who started his hosting stint in 2015,
"Seven years ago, James Corden came to the U.S. and took television by storm, with huge creative and comedic swings that resonated in a big way with viewers on-air and online from 'Crosswalk the Musical' to the legendary 'Carpool Karaoke,' and every unique comedy segment he introduced, James has truly reimagined many elements of the late night format. He has also been the consummate network showman, entertaining audiences from his nightly perch at Television City as well as the Tony and Grammy stage.
"In my two years at CBS, I've had the privilege to see James' creative genius up close and experience his valuable partnership with CBS, both as a performer and a producer. We wish he could stay longer, but we are very proud he made CBS his American home and that this partnership will extend one more season on The Late Late Show."
It's no doubt that James Corden had an influence on the celebrity culture in the US, bringing as stated earlier, innovative interviewing techniques like Carpool Karaoke, where he would loosen up his guests by belting out their favorite songs while driving around.
(Although - maybe we could have done without the obnoxious intersection-blocking stunt where Corden dressed as a crotch thrusting mouse while Camila Cabello, Billy Porter, and Idina Menzel flash mobbed to J. Lo's "Let's Get Loud" in order to promote the Amazon Original movie Cinderella.)
We at Enstarz would like to send our best wishes to James - and ask that in the future that he does not play in traffic. Some of us need to get to work on time.
