1. Bad Moms
Bad Moms is the perfect mom movie to watch when you just want to sit back, laugh, and share some high quality smiles with your mother.
This hilarious comedy follows the story of moms fed up with trying to be perfect. Mila Kunis, Kristen Bell, and Kathryn Hahn cut loose in this amazing new comedy (which is dissected in full on an episode of Enstarz' incredible Made You Watch podcast).
This is the PERFECT Mother's Day movie (but, moms...maybe only watch it with your adult children!)
2. Brave
If your family runs a bit younger, Brave is a perfect Mother's Day movie to watch with the whole gang.
This Scottish-based Pixar annimation hones in on the relationship between Merida and her mother, the Queen. The two get into some fights concerning the expectations placed on the 15-year-old princess, and how they hinder her idependence. However, while they may disagree, they, come to accept each other for who they are and love each other ever more deeply.
It's a perfect Mother's Day movie for everyone, and it poses a now time-tested question: "If ya had the chance to change yur fate, would ye?"
3. Akeelah and the Bee
If you like a heartwarming movie that pulls at the heartstrings HARD, the Mother's Day movie for you is Akeelah and the Bee.
Akeelah is a motivated young girl who wants to compete in the National Spelling Bee. Her mother, however, dissuades her from entering the competition - not out of a lack of support, but out of a loving desire to protect her daughter.
Through this moving film we see the power of hard work, motivation, and true, deep, familial love.
4. Freaky Friday
If you are looking for the PERFECT light hearted mom-and-daughter movie, look no further than Disney's Freaky Friday.
This sensationally silly film, starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, follows the story of a mother and daughter who do not see eye to eye - until they are made to quite literally see the world from the other's eyes.
This hilarious film is perfect for any family spent Mother's Day - and a fun 2000s-era throwback, to boot!
5. Lady Bird
Much like Freaky Friday, Lady Bird follows the story of a mother and a teenage daughter that do not really understand each other - but Lady Bird is an absolute tear jerker.
Through the back and forths, the fights, and the moments of pure understanding, this movie has an exceptional amount of unmissable heart. (Also, Timothee Chalamet is in it, so there is that.)
6. Steel Magnolias
Steel Magnolias is a beautiful Mother's Day watch for anyone in the family.
M'Lynn, who is played by Queen Latifah, has a complicated relationship with her daughter Shelby, who is played by Condola Rashad. Their intricate relationship alongside the heart, joy, and depth of this comedy-drama make it an intriguing must-see on Mother's Day.
(That said, this one is another tear-jerker, and does include a character death, so be prepared for that going into it.)
7. Mamma Mia
If you're in for a musical Mother's Day, is there really any movie to watch other than Mama Mia?
This musical, Abba-inspired show is all about a mother and her daughter. The joy, the laughter, and the quest for Sophie to find her father make Mamma Mia a fun time that is sure to get everyone in the room up and dancing, from the opening number until the final credits roll.
8. The Blind Side
If you want to happy-cry your day away this Mother's Day, The Blind Side is the movie for you.
This true story of a mother showing love and support to her adopted son while simultaneously and equally supporting her biological children is a beautiful and moving story that will make you want to hug your mother (and vice versa) right away.
Honorable Mention: Away We Go
For expecting mothers who are excitedly looking at due dates that fall after Mother's Day 2022, Away We Go is the perfect funny and heartwarming movie to celebrate the day.
In this 2009 film led by John Krasinski and Maya Rudolph, the two tour the country, looking for the perfect place to have their child and start a family.
