Marilyn Monroe Experts Say This About Kim Kardashian Wearing Her Iconic Dress
Kim Kardashian wore one of Hollywood's most legendary gowns to the 2022 Met Gala.
The former "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" star borrowed the sparkling beige gown Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy from Ripley's Believe It or Not Museum in Florida, which previously spent $5 million at auction for the famed gown.
While others admired Kim's appearance, it was revealed that borrowing and wearing the blonde bombshell's dress on the 60th anniversary of her death isn't a good look for Marilyn's legacy, according to experts and die-hard followers who spoke to the New York Post.
Many people were caught away by her discovery of the 60-year-old clothing.
Michelle Morgan, author of "The Girl: Marilyn Monroe, The Seven Year Itch, and the Birth of an Unlikely Feminist," claims that "I am quite disappointed to see this iconic, 60-year-old gown being worn in public."
She went on to say that the sparkling gown is "very fragile" and has been preserved in temperature-controlled conditions. It has, however, escaped from its protected box to be worn on a red carpet "where anything could have happened to it," she added.
The author speculated that "sweat, perfume, and makeup" could have gotten into the clothing, causing "untold damage and stains."
Another expert, Nina Boski, who produced the TV docuseries "Marilyn: Behind the Icon," agreed with the author, stating that Kim Kardashian's moment is "not a favorable" remembering of her.
She believes that the dress should have only been worn by one person, and that person is only Marilyn Monroe.
Scott Fortner, a Marilyn Monroe historian and collector, also stated that people are furious that Kim Kardashian wore the outfit at the Met Gala 2022.
He believes that wearing the gown, which he calls a "national treasure," should have been a one-time event for Marilyn herself.
Did Kim Kardashian Damage Marilyn Monroe's Gown?
However, it was later reported that the KKW Beauty entrepreneur did not wear any makeup to the ceremony, and a spokeswoman for Ripley's informed the site that Kim had "the highest care" for the outfit.
"From meticulous research to following criteria like as nobody makeup, only wearing the dress for the short red-carpet appearance, and making absolutely no adjustments, she has become a steward - and added to - its history," they said in a statement.
Following the renowned event, Ripley's confirmed to The Post that the dress suffered no harm as a result of Kim Kardashian's wearing it.
