No Sleep Tonight: 8 Movies To Make Your Sleepover Day Celebration PERFECT!
It's time to bust out the snacks and the movies, because today is SLEEPOVER DAY!
This is another one of those excellent holidays that my mom is out there INCREDIBLY thankful that I did not know about when I was in grade school. Sleepovers are the best. They are the nights when friendships are forged in the earliest hours of the morning (because obviously no one is getting any sleep.)
That, plus eating a bunch of candy while all of the adults are asleep? Incredible!
What is an absolute necessity at any and EVERY sleepover? The PERFECT sleepover movie!
The perfect sleepover movie is one that captures the fun of the night, while still offering the full blown memorable quotes that you can reference for the foreseeable future. Also, sleepover movies MUST be a movie that it's okay to fall asleep to, for obvious reasons.
If you and your friends find yourselves at a loss for a movie pick while celebrating sleepover day this year, never fear! Here is a list of eight movies absolutely PERFECT for your Sleepover Day celebration - whether you celebrate it today, or on a Friday, which is the day of the week that it should always fall on anyway.
1. Legally Blonde
Legally Blonde is, without question, one of the best sleepover movies to ever be created ever. I watched it at a sleepover once in the fourth grade, and I am STILL thinking about it. Heck, I'm WRITING about it. For my ADULT JOB.
It is the perfect balance of empowering, light-hearted fun, with hilarious quotes that will have you crying with laughter. When it comes to watching Legally Blonde at a sleepover, no one will be saying, "I object!"
2. The Spy Who Dumped Me
The Spy Who Dumped Me is arguably one of the funniest, most underrated films of the last ten years. Mila Kunis and Kate McKinnon get into hilarious hijinks that immediately put the room in a great mood.
On top of that, it's probably not a movie everyone has seen five hundred times, so you are sure to create some unique and lasting memories as Kunis and McKinnon quip with each other in a way that only they can.
3. John Tucker Must Die
Of all of the sleepovers I have ever had, I believe a viewing of cinematic classic John Tucker Must Die was a critical aspect of most of them. This early 2000s classic has everything a sleepover movie needs: girl power, revenge, romance, and a predictable enough plot that if you fall asleep during it you can pretend that you saw the whole thing.
(I won't tell anyone. I promise. And I won't draw on your face with sharpie, either)
4. Girls Trip
What are sleepovers but a perfect time for girl-group bonding, talks, drama, and hilarity. Girls Trip is the PERFECT movie for all of that.
As this group of friends, who have not seen each other for years, reunite on a wonderfully chaotic girls trip, comedy and chaos ensue. The cast, starring the hilarious Tiffany Haddish, is sure to keep everyone awake with laughter until they promptly fall asleep (exhausted from all of the laughter!)
5. Bridesmaids
While seeing friends reuniting is incredible, seeing friends meet each other for the first time is also a hot-bed for comedy. Everyone knows that, when you try to combine friend groups, things can get a little bit sticky. (Heck, you may be combining friends at your sleepover right now!)
Bridesmaids is the PERFECT women-meeting-each-other-for-the-first-time comedy in the history of the world. You will never regret popping in this classic at your sleepover.
6. Mean Girls
If we are talking sleepover classics, Mean Girls HAS to be on the list. This early 2000s masterpiece which perfectly pulls apart the inner workings of girl-fighting and female friendship has been a staple of the sleepover movie catalogue since it first came out.
I actually watched this movie at my first sleepover ever! (Was I too young to watch Mean Girls? Absolutely! But, still: ICONIC!)
7. Think Like a Man
Think Like a Man taps right into the gossipy, comedic, and, quite frankly, plotting aspect of any excellent sleepover.
This INCREDIBLE 2012 comedy follows a group of women who, after reading Steve Harvey's book "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man," throw the men they are seeing for a loop and take control of their own romantic lives.
It is an EXCELLENT sleepover movie which will get the girl talk started in any room!
8. Miss Congeniality
Did you seriously think this list was going to end without mentioning the cinematic classic Miss Congeniality? FBI Agent turned pageant queen starring Sandra Bullock in all of her excellence: this honestly might just be a perfect film.
There's something about an excellent movie staring a powerhouse leading lady that makes any sleepover perfect. Miss Congeniality is that movie.
Whatever movie you end up picking, we hope that you have a wonderful Sleepover Day!
