One Inspiring Mosquito: How Malaria Made Rebel Wilson An Actor
Rebel Wilson is an actress because she got Malaria.
(Come again?)
Super-star talent Rebel Wilson did not always know that acting was the path she was going to wind up taking. Recently, the star went on Today, and reflected that her drive to join the entertainment field actually derived from a bout of Malaria that she contracted while spending time in Africa.
"I took like a gap year between high school and college and I went to Africa for the year, got malaria really, really badly and I hallucinated that I was an actress and that I was really good."
Well, we can definitely promise the star that her being "really good" is anything but a hallucination!
While we are thrilled that she was struck by this sudden, life-altering determination, her family and friends were a bit taken aback. She shared:
"I come back to Australia and said, 'Guys I'll go to law school as well, but I think I've got to pursue acting too because I had the vision...
"People thought I was demented when I got out of the hospital."
People have always pointed to Wilson's law degree as a talesment to her multi-faceted abilities. She truly can do anything- including going to law school with the full knowlege that she was going to leave it all behind and become an actor. Rebel Wilson is exactly that: a rebel in the most wonderful sense of the word. She has stood up against anyone that tries to tear her down, stood up for others, and has always been unabashedly and totally herself.
We are so glad that Rebel Wilson got Malaria! (Wait! No-....You know what we mean!)
