Amber Heard’s Downfall: Net Worth NOT Enough To Save Her From Johnny Depp's Lawsuit?
Amber Heard took the stand for two days straight, but Johnny Depp's fans believe she would lose this time.
Before the defamation trial started, Depp filed a libel suit against The Sun over its article calling him a wife-beater. Heard, at that time, supported the tabloid and shared her experiences to help it win the case.
While Depp ultimately lost his first legal battle, he and his team seemingly have an edge in winning the current $50 million lawsuit.
Before it wraps, a viral Reddit thread asked people: "Johnny Depp is suing Amber Heard for $50mil. She's worth $8mil. How will she pay?"
For what it's worth, Heard only has a net worth of $8 million. If that's the case, the defamation trial could be the end of her.
However, several people replied and offered great responses as to how the case would work.
One user said, "If he wins, he gets $50 mil. If she wins, she gets immunity and $100 mil. I don't understand why she needed to double down while also trying to get immunity from what? Why would you need immunity if you did nothing wrong?
Meanwhile, another explained that Heard could afford to lose the defamation trial as the $50 million lawsuit would be diminished due to her list of damages. With that, she could just face $15 million to $20 million.
As Amber Heard's $8 million net worth still would not be able to cover that, the actress could reportedly pay what she could and get a lien on her future movie earnings.
Amber Heard Countersuits Johnny Depp
Her current net worth serves as proof that she only got a few hit movies that brought millions to her bank account. Most of the projects she worked on, including "Hidden Palms," received poor and negative reviews.
But if Heard wins the case, her $100 million defamation countersuit would then bring down Depp further. The actress scored the power to pursue the case after Fairfax County judge Bruce D. White rejected Depp's attempt to use new legislation to have the case against him thrown out.
But the judge based his decision on the new anti-SLAPP (strategic lawsuits against public participation) law in Virginia.
As of press time, it remains tough to predict who would win this time, but Depp and Heard are said to be preparing themselves to secure their win.
