Ncuti Gatwa is set to take on the role of the iconic timelord in the multi-generational hit series Doctor Who.

Doctor Who has been a fan-favorite series since the 1960s. The show's title character continuously "regenerates" becoming a new person, in a new time.

The timelord is currently being played by the exceptional Jodie Whittaker. Whittaker made history as the first woman to play the Doctor when she took on the role back in 2017. Now, in 2017, Whittaker is passing on the reigns to the incredible Ncuti Gatwa.

Fans have come to know and love Gatwa through his work in the comedy Sex Education. Gatwa's perofrmance will be similarly historic to Whittakers, as Gatwa will be the first Black actor to become the Doctor.

The Scotland-born performer is thrilled and honored to be taking on the role. He shared his joy in a statement:

"There aren't quite the words to describe how I'm feeling. A mix of deeply honoured, beyond excited and of course a little bit scared.

"This role and show means so much to so many around the world, including myself, and each one of my incredibly talented predecessors has handled that unique responsibility and privilege with the utmost care. I will endeavour my upmost to do the same.

"And so as much as it's daunting, I'm aware I'm joining a really supportive family...Unlike the Doctor, I may only have one heart but I am giving it all to this show."

We cannot wait to see Gatwa take on this fantastic role.
