The Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness star hosted Saturday Night Live for the second time this past weekend. Cumberbatch is known for his multi-talented excellence; while the lion's share of the roles he plays on screen tend to be more serious, his knowlege of himself and his acting prowess give him the self-awarness to lean into that side of himself in order to create some one of the best host monologues on the 8H stage.
In fact, he opened his monologue, joking that, in the past week, he has had to remind the writers of the show that he has actually been in things other than Doctor Strange.
He then mentions he was in the critically acclaimed film The Power of the Dog. When he jests that the writers remarked that no one saw the film, Cumberbatch remarks that he was nominated for the Oscar for Best Actor for the role. (Yes, he is gearing up for an incredible Will Smith joke.)
"I mean, I didn't win. I was beat by Will Smith. No, not physically. Not physically."
The joke is met with uproarous laughter. In delivering this joke with his very Cumberbatchian air, he had the crowd laughing on a topic that was thought tired shortly after it began.
We are now going to watch EVERYTHING that Benedict Cumberbatch has ever been in.
