What Happened to Abi Phillips? ‘Hollyoaks’ Star Shares Devastating Health Diagnosis
Abi Phillips shared devastating news about her health.
On Monday, Phillips revealed that she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer at the age of 28. She shared a photo of herself wearing a hospital gown on Instagram, saying that she has since underwent scans and biopsy to confirm her diagnosis.
After two weeks of waiting for the result, she heard an unexpected update about her health.
"I'd previously been sent away from the doctors after having found two lumps in my neck, they'd passed it off and said I was 'young' and it wouldn't be anything and I was 'probably getting over a cold' or my body was 'fighting something off,'" she said.
But to calm her mind, she arranged an appointment with a specialist and immediately learned that her case was very concerning. After seeing the lumps' location, she had an urgent biopsy and scans before she was officially diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
To help herself in the recovery, she would purportedly need to undergo surgery and radiotherapy treatment.
Abi Phillips Says Demi Jones' Diagnosis Urged Her To Seek Medical Attention
Following the revelation, she expressed her disbelief as she got the dreaded illness at the age of 28.
Demi Jones, who was also diagnosed with thyroid cancer, shared photos of her test results. Phillips then discovered that Jones' lumps were detected in the same place as hers.
At the end of her post, she urged her followers to get things checked in order to catch things early and have a good prognosis.
According to the National Cancer Institute, thyroid cancer starts when malignant cancer cells form in the tissues of a patient's thyroid gland. Initial tests may detect nodules in the organ, but these do not usually cause symptoms or need treatment unless they grow larger that it is already hard to swallow or breathe.
After Phillips revealed the news, her friends and fans left heartfelt messages in the comments section and shared posts on different social media accounts.
Anna Passey said, "Oh Abs! So sorry to hear, sending you all the strength and love mate xx."
Alex Reid, Alice Barlow, and Layke also sent her positive messages.
Philipps is best known for playing Liberty Savage in "Hollyoaks." She also dropped her hit debut single, "Summer Sunshine," in 2011,
It remains unknown whether her thyroid cancer would still leave a long-term effect on her voice.
