Queen Elizabeth’s Health Getting Worse? Princess Anne Steps Up Amid Monarch’s Issues
Queen Elizabeth II sparked more fears as Princess Anne finally stepped up to fill another major role.
More royal family members have been covering for Queen Elizabeth II in the past weeks, causing royal fans to feel worried about the monarch's health.
After Prince Charles and Prince William's appearances during the State Opening of Parliament, Princess Anne took the center stage to play a major role on Queen's behalf.
Royal author Phil Dampier recently took to Twitter to suggest that Princess Anne should be made a counsellor of state immediately. Royals with the role are authorized to perform official duties of the Sovereign, which include attending Privy Council meetings, receiving the credentials of new ambassadors, and signing documents, to name a few.
Counsellors of State are the Sovereign's spouse and the next four people in the line of British succession who are over the age of 21.
As of this time, Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Prince Andrew have the titles. The Duke of Sussex and Duke of York got the titles since the next heirs after Prince William - Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis - are still underage.
"The next in line and over the required age of 21 would be Princess Beatrice. However, most of the functions of the Head of State can be devolved. It is not, for example, constitutionally necessary for the Queen to attend the State Opening of Parliament," he explained, as quoted by Express UK.
However, since Prince Harry and Prince Andrew do not undertake official royal duties anymore, the next heirs should step up.
Buckingham Palace Trying To Find New Counsellors of State
Dampier's opinion resonated with what Buckingham Palace officials are said to be doing in the past months.
For what it's worth, it was revealed that they have been trying to remove Prince Harry - and Prince Andrew - as Counsellors of State. This would allow them to fill in if Queen Elizabeth II could not cover the royal duty.
"It is a genuine problem that the Palace is looking to address. Can you imagine the Duke of York having to sign official documents, for example, because the Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge were both abroad, and the Queen became ill? It's not an exaggeration to say it could put the monarchy in jeopardy," an insider told Daily Mail.
As of press time, Queen Elizabeth nor Buckingham Palace has confirmed whether Princess Anne would get the role.
