Happy National Blame Someone Else Day! These 8 TV Characters REFUSE To Take The Blame (Yes, OBVIOUSLY 'It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia' is Here)
No...it's NOT your fault.
Today is National Blame Someone Else Day!
Yes, that's right. Nothing that happens today is your fault. It is, in line with celebration, EXPRESSLY the fault of someone else.
Blame Someone Else Day always falls on the first Friday 13th of the year. If Friday 13th brings you any bad luck, don't worry. It is 10000% someone else's fault.
How can one celebrate National Blame Someone Else Day (well, aside from doing something and blaming something else)? What could be better than watching a bunch of movies and TV shows with characters who have no concept of how to take any accountability for their actions?
Here are the MUST watches for this year's Blame Someone Else Day. (And if you don't like these suggestions, they are not our fault!)
1. Parks and Recreation - Mona Lisa Saperstein
Mona Lisa Saperstein from Parks and Recreation takes no blame for anything ever. In fact, one of the character's most famous lines, literally, is, "I have never done anything wrong, ever, in my life."
If that is not queen-level blaming someone else, I'm not sure what is. (Especially given that her father's answer is "I know this, and I love you.")
2. The Afterparty - Yasper
Yasper from The Afterparty is one of the most iconic blaming someone else characters ever. Yasper went to GREAT LENGTHS to convince everyone that anyone else is to blame for the murder that the show revolves around.
Also, I think it is telling that Ben Schwartz plays Yasper AND plays Jean-Ralphio on Parks and Recreation - WHO IS Mona Lisa's brother. I guess it runs in the family!
3. The Office - Angela
Angela from The Office does not let any blame fall on her shoulders. Everyone is someone else's fault in the most hilarious way possible, and she is FINE with it. She somehow cheats on two men with each other at the same time and manages to make THEM fight about it.
"I have a nice comforter, a few cozy pillows, I usually read a chapter of a book, and it's lights out by 8:30, and *that's* how I sleep at night."
I mean *iconic*!
4. Ted Lasso - Nate
Nate from Ted Lasso absolutely refuses to take blame for anything. While we see him put up with a lot from his family life, he finds a way to make every situation one in which one someone has wronged him somehow. Nothing is every his fault.
However, given the INCREDIBLY forgiving nature of this show, we can't wait to see what this character arc may have in store going forward.
5. Inventing Anna - Anna Delvey
Anna Delvey, the real-life con-artist, made real-life history blaming someone else all along the way. Her blaming someone else is ACTUALLY what led to her show Inventing Anna.
While we are not recommending becoming a fraud artist, she DEFINITELY belongs on this National Blame Someone Else Day list.
6. The Office - Todd Packer
Yes, The Office has to be on this list twice - because of the one, the only, Todd Packer. Packer is the LITERAL worst. He bakes drugs into cupcakes rather than accepting responsibility for his actions.
The Office is one of those shows that doesn't really have a villain...except for Todd Packer.
7. The Good Place - Eleanor Shellstrop
Eleanor Shellstrop from The Good Place ends up in "the good place" LARGELY because she blames everyone else for every problem in her life.
Does this show largely also follow her growth arc in which she learns to take accountability and become a better person? Yes, absolutely, but she still DEFINITELY belongs on this list!
8. It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia - EVERYONE
Literally everyone. Literally every single person on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The show should be called It's Always Blameless in Philadelphia.
Honestly, to celebrate this holiday, just binge this show. It will CERTAINLY put you in the spirit.
Go watch, go make mistakes, go blame someone else for them!
