'Black Mirror' Might Just be The Show We Need Right Now. Netflix Signs On For Season 6.
Fans of the sci-fi masterwork that is Black Mirror are in for a treat: Netflix has just announced that after a three-year-long hiatus, the modern-day Twilight Zone is returning to the streaming giant, with new tales of a modern society gone amok.
Variety has reported that the upcoming Season 6 will be something to behold; With what they are calling a "cinematic scope," each of the new segments is being treated as a film within itself.
Charlie Brooker and his creative partner Annabel Jones have partnered with Netflix after leaving their previous team at House of Tomorrow, only to have the rights of the show stay with their parent company Endemol Shine Group.
Becoming Broke and Bones, it didn't take Netflix long to buy into the company, and to broker a deal to have the show eventually go over to their own platform.
Brooker discussed his feelings about continuing the show during the all-too-real pandemic two years ago:
"At the moment, I don't know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I'm not working away on one of those. I'm sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I've been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh."
Now is as good a time as any to bring the future-questioning series back in full force. From having a game show host become the president of the U.S. to a comedian/actor becoming the brilliant leader of a war-torn country, the commentary of Black Mirror might be just what we need in these cartoonishly turbulent times.
