Johnny Depp Returning As Jack Sparrow? Franchise’s Producer Shares Cryptic Plan
Johnny Depp's future return in the "Pirates of the Caribbean" may be possible.
Amid the ongoing defamation trial, Depp's supporters have urged the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Fantastic Beasts" franchises to take back the actor. They also want the companies to drop Amber Heard instead, as she purportedly damaged the actor's reputation and career.
Depp is suing Heard, which reportedly crippled his Hollywood empire. While he already made it clear he would never return to the "Pirates of the Caribbean" even after winning the defamation case, the producer seemingly hinted that the actor still has a possible return soon.
Johnny Depp Returning As Captain Jack Sparrow?
In a new interview with The Sunday Times, the "Pirates of the Caribbean" producer Jerry Bruckheimer said that, while the project does not currently include Depp, his future in the franchise remains unknown.
"Yes. We're talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts - one with her, one without. [Will Depp be back?] Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided," he said.
The producer's cryptic message about Depp's future, which is yet to be talked about, shed some hope to fans who still want to see him portray Captain Jack Sparrow's role again.
Depp's agent, Jack Whigham, revealed in his May 2 testimony that the actor already agreed to receive a $22.5 million pay to spearhead the sixth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film. After the op-ed was published, he found it hard to get him a studio film.
Johnny Depp Does Not Want To Become Captain Jack Sparrow Anymore
Regardless of what Disney and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise have to offer, Depp already proclaimed that he would never return to play the role again.
During his cross-examination, Depp firmly said that the mouse house no longer has a chance to win him and include him again in the multi-billion franchise.
Heard's attorney, Ben Rottenborn, sparred with him during the trial and asked him whether he would accept the Mouse House's offer again.
"The fact is, Mr. Depp, if Disney came to you with $300 million and a million alpacas, nothing on this earth would get you to go back and work with Disney on a Pirates of the Caribbean film? Correct?" the lawyer asked, as quoted by Variety.
Depp then agreed, confirming his plans for his titular character.
