'Gremlins: Secrets Of The Mogwai' Finally Gives Fans A Sneak Peek At The Long-Anticipated Animated Prequel
Remember the rules: No bright light. Never get them wet. Never feed them after midnight.
Now that we have that out of the way, we can talk about the long anticipated Gremlins animated prequel, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai.
Set to stream on HBO Max and Cartoon Network, this animated tie-in to the popular comedy/horror franchise will revolve around Sam Wing, the old man who took care of the friendly mogwai Gizmo in the films - now a child in China, caring for the creature. According to the synopsis,
"Steeped in China's rich culture and mythology, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai takes viewers back to 1920s Shanghai, where the Wing family first discovers the mysterious creature. Sam Wing, the youngest in the family, accepts the dangerous task to take Gizmo home, and embarks on a journey through the Chinese countryside.
"Sam and Gizmo are joined by a teenage street thief named Elle, and together, they encounter - and sometimes battle - colorful monsters and spirits from Chinese folklore.
"Along their quest, they are pursued by a power-hungry industrialist and his growing army of evil Gremlins."
The show has an amazing cast of familiar Asian actors, including Min-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, the legendary James Hong, and Izaac Wang playing Sam Wing.
Even before airing its first season, the series has already been picked up for a second by the streaming giant - proving the power of the decades old franchise, which hasn't had a new addition since the comedic sequel Gremlins 2: The New Batch back in 1990.
Hopefully, the show will spark some interest in a third film (but only if they use the old-school puppets.)
Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai is set to premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 13, and later this year on both HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
