And That's What You Missed: 13th Anniversary of 'Glee' Has Us Looking At INSANE Moments That Went Right Over Our Heads! (Is There a Glee-boot Coming?)
Glee aired 13 years ago today, and Twitter is helping to point out the most WTF-is-this-moments of the well remembered series.
Glee was a cultural phenomenon. The show brought cetain celebrities, for better or for worse, to the forefront of the cultural zeitgeist. Matthew Morrison is now a judge on So You Think You Can Dance. Lea Michele has been all over the internet - in terms of Twitter and lamps, at least (iykyk).
This show about a high school show choir strove to give outsiders a voice, and youngartists a place to feel like they belonged.
They tried.
They really, really, REALLY tried.
Glee wanted to say something, but it often came out very wrong. And as most of Glee's avid watchers fell in the middle and high school age range, a lot of these strange moments went right over our heads. So, at this time of year, the internet likes to come together and reflect on the weirdest moments of this very early 2010s show.
For example, there was an entire plotline where Glee Club star Rachel Barry felt threatened by a new auditoner, and QUITE LITERALLY sent her to a crack house.
This is one of those moments that retrospect really catches. At the time we just ACCEPTED it. That's an INSANE thing to do, and we were just like, "sure, seems legit."
Of course, there were many other moments of this same level of absurdity.
Even with all of this absolute INSANITY, fans are still weary about talks of an upcoming reboot (a Glee-boot, if you will). Back in September, Deadline announced that a reboot of the iconic series was very much under consideration. However, fans are worried that the high-stakes fever dream that was Glee will never be able to be purely captured again.
"And that's what you missed on *GLEE*"
(If you didn't hear voices sing, "Glee" in your head, what are you doing here?)
