This Barbie World Is WILD: Casting for Multiple Variations of Barbie and Ken Announced for Greta Gerwig's Highly Anticipated New Film
The upcoming Greta Gerwig Barbie movie keeps getting more and more fascinating; With every new announcement, we are getting more and more excited about entering this Barbie world.
The incredible Greta Gerwig is directing a new film, titled Barbie. It was previously announced that Margot Robbie would star in the film as the title character.
While that remains true, the reality of this life-in-plastic is far more intricate than that. Like a multiverse of Mattel, it was just announced that there will be multiple variations of Barbie and Ken in this film, played by multiple different actors.
According to a Twitter post from The New York Times's Kyle Buchanan, different actors have already been selected to play the different variations. Alongside Robbie, Issa Rae and Hari Nef are both slated to take on the role of the literal Barbie Girl. Simu Liu and Ncuti Gatwa have also been added to Ken's roster, joining the previously announced Ryan Gosling.
While little is known about the plot line of this film, everything we hear about it makes us eager to see it in full.
Other casting speculations have been circling surrounding the highly anticipated film. In light of a picture and caption posted on the Instagram story of Gatwa, many believe that Bridgerton's Nicola Coughlan will be appearing in the film.
She would be joining an incredibly star-studded cast already known to be featuring Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Ariana Greenblatt, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, Will Ferrell, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Rhea Perlman, Emerald Fennell, Sharon Rooney, Scott Evans, Ana Cruz Kaney, Connor Swindells, Ritu Arya, and Jamie Demetriou.
