Chadwick Boseman's legacy played a huge part in the development of Black Panther's standalone film "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."

Boseman's career in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was cut short after his death in 2020 following his battle with colon cancer.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter account, it was revealed that Boseman was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016. It progressed through the years until it reached stage IV.

Due to his passing, Marvel Studios went through a lot of discussions to carefully plan the future of the "Black Panther" franchise and the actor's character. Ahead of the arrival of "Black Panther 2" or "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever," Boseman's co-star Letitia Wright revealed that the movie is an "incredible honor" to the late actor.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" To Honor Chadwick Boseman

In a new interview with Variety at a Cannes Film Festival dinner on Sunday, Wright said the team went through a lot of difficult situations before perfectly deciding on how to include Boseman in the film he breathed life into.

According to the actress, they honored him by committing themselves to the story that he unfolded in the MCU and continued the legacy he established with the franchise.

"We just committed every day to working hard, no matter what circumstances we faced - and we faced a lot of circumstances, a lot of difficult situations - but we came together as a team, and we poured everything into this movie, so I'm excited for you to see it," she went on.

Aside from Boseman's death, "Black Panther" production also faced postponement after the "Death on the Nile" actress spoke about her anti-vaccination views on the film's set.

She also suffered from an on-set injury that temporarily shut down the film's development. She was hospitalized due to minor injuries.

Wright did not reveal how they honored Boseman, but Marvel Studios executive vice president Victoria Alonso told Argentinian newspaper Clarin that they did not consider using a CGI double to play on Boseman's behalf.

The Marvel family expressed their love for him, as well, when they marked his supposed 44th birthday by debuting a new opening credit for "Black Panther."

The 30-second clip presented a montage of Boseman's works as MCU's King T'Challa and Black Panther. The company also changed the Marvel logo into purple and shared the masterpiece with fans.

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is set for release on Nov. 11, 2022.
