Billie Eilish Tells All on David Letterman's 'My Next Guest Needs No Introduction' About Living with Tourette Syndrome: This Is What Makes Her Mad
On the most recent episode of David Letterman's show My Next Guest Needs No Introduction, music sensation Billie Eilish opened up about her experiences living with Tourette Syndrome.
Billie Eilish is a name known by the world. She skyrocketed to fame at a young age, entirely revolutionizing the landscape of music with her smash hits such as "Bad Guy" and "Bury a Friend."
What many may not know about the superstar, however, is that she lives with Tourette Syndrome.
TS is a nervous system disorder that can cause people to exhibit unpropted tics. Eilish was diagnosed with TS when she was eleven years old.
The topic came up on Letterman's Netflix show My Guests Need No Introduction after Eilish experienced a tic on camera. She remarked:
"If you film me for long enough, you're going to see a lot of tics."
The singer said that she actually loves discussing TS. She shared:
"It's very, very interesting, and I am incredibly confused by it...I don't get it." She went on to explain that although she has TS, she does not experience tics when she is moving around or performing.
Eilish expressed that, while she has no issues discussing it or answering questions, she does get very offended when people react poorly to her tics.
"The most common way that peole react is they laugh becasue they think I'm trying to be funny...and I'm always left incredibly offended by that."
By opening up about her experience with TS, Eilish is bringing visibility and awareness to a community that is not often focused on. She went on to say:
"A couple artists came forward and said, 'I've actually always had Tourette's,' and I'm not gonna out them because they don't wanna talk about it, but that was actually really interesting to me."
Billie Eilish is a FULL icon.
