#IFeelTheNeedFor ("I feel the need for,") is one of the top trends on Twitter right now, and we have Top Gun: Maverick to thank.

Everyone remembers the iconic scene from Top Gun, where Tom Cruise's character, Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, memorably says:

"I feel the need: The need for speed."

On May 24th of 2022, yes, this past Tuesday, Top Gun has returned to the top of everyone's minds. The sequel to the well-known film Top Gun: Maverick was just released this weeknin theaters.

Could it be too bold of us to hazard a guess that a reference to this epochal line is made in the new film?

Whether it is or isn't, fans of the film have been reminded of this moment, and they have taken to Twitter about it. And of course, Twitter has made it its own.

While Tom Cruise had a definite need for speed, citizens of the Twittersphere have needs too -so they have turned the well-known phrase into a hashtag.

Users will write #IFeelTheNeedFor, and then quickly follow the beginning of the phrase with their own personal needs. Most of the tweets following the trend also include to illustrate.

When people first wrote Top Gun, they definitely had NO idea that it would bring us here...be we are so glad that it did, because it is HILARIOUS.

Why so many of these are cat-based though, we could not tell you. Top Gun: Maverick is now playing in theaters.
