Ray Liotta Death: Martin Scorsese ‘Devastated’ After Good Pal’s Passing
The Hollywood industry is mourning the shocking death of "Goodfellas" star Ray Liotta. His good pal, famed director Martin Scorsese, is now making a big move by paying tribute to the actor.
In a statement provided to People Magazine, the film producer said he was "absolutely shocked" by the news and devastated by the unexpected death of his friend.
He praised the actor by saying he was "uniquely gifted, so adventurous, so courageous as an actor."
According to Scorsese, Liotta's character in "Goodfellas," Henry Hill," was a tall order as his role had "many different facets, so many complicated layers, and Ray was in almost every scene of a long, tough shoot."
Concluding his tribute, the director said his great pal amazed him, and he'll always be proud of the work they did together on the movie.
"My heart goes out to his loved ones, and it aches for his loss, way too early," he said.
Liotta's co-star in the film, Lorraine Bracco, took to Twitter to remember her friend, saying she's utterly shattered to hear that he passed away.
Ray Liotta's Unexpected Death
In early reports, the actor's publicist, Jennifer Allen, first told The Hollywood Reporter about the tragic news.
Liotta died on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning in the Dominican Republic.
The actor is in the country as he was shooting a new film titled "Dangerous Waters."
As of this writing, there is still no information about his actual cause of death, but the statement confirmed Liotta died in his sleep.
An insider also confirmed to the outlet that there was no foul play involved with the actor's death.
Prior to his sudden death, Liotta worked on many projects, including the "Sopranos" prequel movie "The Many Saints of Newark" and the new Amazon Prime series "Hanna."
Currently, there is still no information if "Dangerous Waters" will be canceled or if another actor will replace his character.
Aside from "Goodfellas," Liotta is also known for his roles in several films like "Bee Movie," "Field of Dreams," "Black Berry," "Hannibal," "Killing Them Softly," "Identity" "Blow," "In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale," and many more.
He was survived by fiancée Jacy Nittolo, daughter Karsen and ex-wife Michelle Grace.
