Earlier today, Deadline announced that The Serpent's Tahar Rahim has been cast in Sony's upcoming Madame Web. The actor would be joining fellow cast mates Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O'Connor, and Isabela Merced though Rahim's role is currently unknown.

According to Deadline, the character of Madame Web is unique. She is depicted as

"an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis and thus was connected to a life-support system that looked like a spider web. Due to her age and medical condition, Madame Web never actively fought any villains...Insiders say that due to her psychic sensory powers, she is essentially Sony's version of Doctor Strange."

This move by Sony to develop Madame Web is the studio's newest effort to expand on its Spider-Man properties. A mutant with clairvoyant powers, Madame Web is often a supporting character in the Spider-Man comic books. Johnson has been cast to play her in this film.

While Rahim is an up-and-comer who will next be seen in Apple TV+ and Scott Z Burns' limited series Extrapolations, Sony has seen massive success with recent hits Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home. This latest venture will be an interesting one that features a central superhero character with a chronic autoimmune disorder.
