Jeff Bridges Breaks Silence on ALMOST Dying After Having COVID-19 Amid Cancer Battle
Jeff Bridges spoke up about his wife fearing his death after the actor had to deal with two dreaded diseases at the same time.
Bridges had to remain stronger after learning about his non-Hodgkin lymphoma diagnosis. But things got worse when he contracted COVID-19 in January 2021, during which the vaccine was not available yet.
The health status, unfortunately, led his wife to feel extremely worried as he looked like he was already going to die.
After successfully beating these health issues, the actor detailed how extreme his struggles were in a new interview.
Ahead of the release of CBS "Sunday Morning" this week, the show released a sneak peek of Bridges as he talked about the seriousness of his fight against cancer after contracting COVID-19. For five weeks, the "Iron Man" star fought for his life inside the ICU before managing to beat the diseases all at once.
"My wife would ask, 'Is he going to die?' And they'd say, 'We're doing the best that we can.' They wouldn't reassure her that it was all going to be fine. We're all gonna die, man. Come on. We're all going to get sick and die. And your friends are gonna die. That's part of it," he said.
Recounting his experience came after Bridges revealed years ago that he felt something unusual in his stomach while doing a home workout.
At that time, he had his body checked and discovered a 12-by-9-inch tumor in his body. From there, he began his chemotherapy and saw positive progress.
But everything changed when the COVID-19 virus weakened his immune system.
Jeff Bridges Inspired by His Daughter, Haley
Despite his pain and anxiety, he pushed himself to fight again for his family, especially for his youngest daughter with Geston, Haley. His daughter got married when his health took a turn for the worse.
"I started getting better and my goal was walking Haley down the wedding aisle. I'd get to walk her down, and do a little wedding dance. It was really, really terrific," Bridges continued, as quoted by Yahoo! Entertainment.
"CBS Sunday Morning" then flashed a video of the father-daughter dance, making Bridges more emotional as he shared how his health issues helped him feel more thankful.
Bridges survived the illnesses after receiving convalescent plasma (a therapy that uses blood from people who have recovered from an illness), and the actor began seeing improvements. The actor now feels well as he is set to star in the drama, "The Old Man."
