Maria Bakalova, Oscar Nominee For 'Borat 2,' Has Been Confirmed For Pivotal Role In James Gunn's 'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3'
Very nice! Maria Bakalova, the Oscar-nominated actress of Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, has been announced in a key role in the much-anticipated Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
Though it has not been hinted at who Bakalova might be playing, Deadline confirmed today that she will definitely be playing an integral part in the next film from director James Gunn and the MCU.
Gunn has been hinting at an "unannounced actor" for the upcoming film, but it has been confirmed by the publication that Bakalova wasn't the person he was talking about. In fact, Gunn took to Twitter to make this clear:
Little is known as to what the film will be about, though the usual characters - including Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn, and Pom Klementieff - are back, with Sylvester Stallone, Will Poulter, Chukwudi Iwuji, Daniela Melchior, and Elizabeth Debicki rounding out the cast.
Maria Bakalova is most well-known for her interaction with the deplorably embarrassing former Mayor of New York, Rudy Gulliani. She pretends to interview him in the Borat sequel (which he thought was a real interview) only to out him as a pervert, in one of the most intense scenes of the film.
Her knack for never breaking character, and keeping up with the unembarrassable Sacha Baron Cohen, put Bakalova on the map as an actress to watch. She will definitely fit into the hysterical menagerie of actors Gunn has always been a genius at assembling.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now in post-production, and is expected to fly into theaters on May 5th, 2023.
