Netflix has been busy all day, supplying an overload of amazing offerings coming to the streaming giant in the coming months during their Geeked Week Event and The Sandman show is standing out as one of the most amazing undertakings in this new slate of shows.

Based on the wildly popular graphic novel series by writer/creator Neil Gaiman, The Sandman has been a cult favorite for comic book readers worldwide since first being published in 1989. The books form a long-running narrative that tell the story of The Sandman - aka Dream, aka Morpheus, one of seven mythological entities called the Endless.

The personification of dreams, he is captured by a mortal wizard, only to return to reclaim what was once his.

Rich in characters and plot, this intricate New York Times bestselling series has been on the slate for years to become a live-action adaptation, recently made into an audiobook with a cast of actors including James McAvoy.

Not since the 2013 film adaptation - which was to star Joseph Gordon-Levitt - was scrapped, has this ever come close to fruition.

The Netflix series stars Tom Sturridge as Dream, acting alongside David Thewlis, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Charles Dance, Patton Oswalt, Jenna Coleman, Gwendoline Christie, and Joley Richardson.

The trailer for The Sandman has all of the dark, brooding feel of the comic, with the ensemble look of Gaiman's past television endeavors like Good Omens and American Gods.

Known for his otherworldly imagination, Gaiman's stories turned live-action are often tricky to adapt, and with the long plot of this book, it will be interesting to see how this show fares.

The Sandman will begin streaming on Netflix beginning on August 5th.
