Hanna Rosin just gave Fire Island an F- on the Bechdel Test, and Twitter is like "....yeah...?"

Fire Island is a film that puts a new spin on Jane Austen's classic work Pride and Prejudice. It uses this well known framework and tells the story of a group of gay men on Fire Island.

The Bechdel Test is a standard that was created in a cartoon by Alison Bechdel. A work only passes the Bechdel Test if there is a scene between two women in which the women do not talk about a man. Hanna Rosin, author and NY Mag podcaster, tweeted out:

"So @hulu #FireIslandMovie gets an F- on the Bechdel test in a whole new way. Do we just ignore the drab lesbian stereotypes bc cute gay Asian boys? Is this revenge for all those years of the gay boy best friend?"

Just...why?

The internet is on FIRE (pun intended) with people pointing out the obvious fact: of ALL of the movies that have come out recently, you're going to Bechdel Test FIRE ISLAND??!?!?!?!

The movie is a love story about a group of men. No part of the advertising surrounding this movie tried to avoid that.

That's like giving the salad at McDonald's an F-. No one goes to McDonald's for salad. McDonald's knows you do not go to McDonald's for salad. OBVIOUSLY the McDonald's salad is bad, but it's your fault for ordering the McDonald's salad. Might we offer you a french fry?

Twitter is in complete agreement.

Brb. Off to go rate the comedic timing in Crimes of the Heart.
