This morning, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for the latest DC Comics film Black Adam. Starring Dwayne Johnson in a role that fits him like a glove, the film depicts the origin story of the ancient Egyptian antihero who becomes the nemesis of Shazam.

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

"Black Adam follows what happens after Black Adam is freed from his earthly tomb, nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed almighty powers of the Egyptian gods and immediately imprisoned. He is then ready to 'unleash his unique form of justice' on the modern world."

Starring alongside Johnson are Pierce Brosnan as Doctor Fate, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone.

In the trailer, Black Adam tells Doctor Fate the story of how he was "reborn a god," which provides context for Black Adam's vengeance-filled quest to "kneel before no one." Along the way, he meets heroes like Hawkman, Atom Smasher, and Cyclone, but continually rebuffs their pleas to do good. Finally,

Doctor Fate tells Black Adam: "My vision has shown me the future. You have two choices: You can be the destroyer of this world or you can be its savior."

Which one will Black Adam choose?

Previously, Johnson had released a first-look scene from Black Adam posted to his Twitter. In the video, other cast members introduce themselves as their superhero characters, until an impassioned Johnson introduces the scene when Black Adam first becomes awakened in the modern world.

As part of his introduction, Johnson says excitedly:

"This film, this universe has been a gigantic passion project of mine for a very long time. The film has without question some of the biggest action sequences I have ever been a part of."

Black Adam flies exclusively into theaters on October 21, 2022.
