Jason Reitman Announces 'Ghostbusters' Animated Feature-Length Movie Is In The Works From 'Spider-Verse' Studio Sony Pictures Animation

It was announced this week that Netflix would be making a Ghostbusters animated series, to continue the recent trend of bringing back nostalgia franchises - but they are not stopping there.
Announced by Sony Pictures Animation soon after, they plan to make an animated feature as well - only this one will add a few changes to the canon.
While celebrating Ghostbusters Day on June 8th, the official release of the original film, it was announced that a full-length animated movie would soon be in the works, touting a "new take" with all new characters.
Developing the project will be Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, who wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife together, along with directors Jennifer Kluska, who helmed Hotel Transylvania 4: Transformania, and Chirs Prynoski, founder of Titmouse Animation, based on a script by Brenda Hsueh.
Jason Reitman, director of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and son of the original film's director, had this to say:
"This was a passion project of my father's (Ivan Reitman) and it's easy to understand why. The world of the unknown can only be properly explored through the limitless reach of animation."
A new animated #Ghostbusters feature is in development with all new characters and a whole new take - helmed by #JenniferKluska and @ChrisPrynoski, and written by #BrendaHsueh. #GhostbustersDay @sonyanimation

The effort to make a universe out of Ghostbusters has never really gotten off the ground, despite two sequels, a reboot, a pseudo-sequel disguised as a video game, and a Saturday morning cartoon from the 80s. What better way to keep the franchise alive than to create a big-budget animated movie which can go places a live-action film never could?
Although, whatever this new take entails could be the make or break for the Ghostbusters continuing their adventures.
