Goodbye 'Schmigadoon' (But Not Really): Season 2 of The Musical Apple TV+ Show Moving to Schmicago
Schmigadoon, one of the most charming shows to have come out on any streaming service in the last year, has been renewed for a second season on Apple TV+.
Scmigadoon, a town in which the world is a classic Broadway musical, danced across our screens and filled our hearts with song during a time when theater was just starting to open its doors once again.
The show has now officially been renewed for season two.
The first season of the show was an obvious instant hit. The cast, which was led by the incredible Cecily Strong and Keegan Michael Key, was a dynamite team of talent and theatrical prowess. Broadway legends came to the screen in a major way, including Aaron Tveit, Kristin Chenoweth, and Ariana DeBose.
The story of the season followed the trajectory of a musical, the end of which concluded beautifully. Therefore, many have been left questioning where the show could possibly go, now that continuing into season two has been confirmed.
Rather than going to the town of Schmigadoon, it has been announced that the show's leads, who will once again be played by Strong and Key, will venture into the world of Schmicago. Whereas Schmigadoon found its footing in the small-town world of classical musical theatre, Schmicago will pay tribute to Broadway musicals of the 1960s and 1970s.
The majority of the season one cast have confirmed that they have signed back on to take part in this next epic musical adventure.
Two major stars will also be joining the show in Schmicago: Tituss Burgess from Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Patrick Page from Hadestown have joined the cast.
We cannot wait to see what this next season has in store.
